Another day has begun.
And we’re here to make the safety of today carry over into tomorrow
We ensure healthy food and a pleasant environment.
We are the Seoul government Research Institute of Public Health and Environment.
Founded in 1945 as the Hansung Hygiene Laboratory,
the Institute of Public Health and Environment is a world-class testing and analysis R&D center that brings health and the environment together.
The Institute tests for pesticide residues and heavy metals in agricultural and marine products as well as medicinal herbs,
and conducts radiation testing on a regular basis, promptly releasing the results to the public.
The Institute also conducts safety inspections on processed foods and food containers, hygiene products, facial masks, cosmetics, and medicines.
The Institute of Health and Environment has inspection stations at the Garak and Gangseo Agricultural and Seafood Wholesale Markets,
and immediately inspects agricultural and seafood products distributed to Seoul to ensure their safety.
The Gangbuk Agricultural and Fishery Products Inspection Center, located in Yakryeong Market,
manages the entire inspection process for distribution of medicinal herbs in Seoul, from sample collection to quality inspection, harmful substance testing and preventing the distribution of non-compliant products,
creating a healthy environment for food that people can trust.
To protect the public from high-risk viruses and emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and Mpox
we conduct 24-hour quick testing for pathogens and sewage-based infectious diseases, and infectious diseases caused by bacteria and viruses
and constantly monitor disease vectors like mosquitoes and ticks―all to prevent the spread of infectious disease.
We have established for Seoul a dedicated epidemic prevention system to inspect the causes of animal cruelty and inspect the safety of pet food, and are striving to investigate zoonotic infectious diseases such as avian influenza.
We are also striving to strengthen the safety of livestock food,
including beef identification tests and antibiotic tests, so people can rest easy when purchasing livestock products.
To ensure that everyone can use the water we drink every day with confidence,
We thoroughly monitor the quality of drinking water, groundwater, mineral water, as well as the water ecosystem of the Han River and other rivers, as well as local streams.
We proactively investigate unregulated harmful substances in sewage and wastewater, while conducting research on microplastics, a potentially harmful substance
We also inspect the soil environment of spaces for children and urban vegetable gardens to create safer living spaces
As we emphasize improving the quality of life for all,
we are testing the indoor air quality of multi-use facilities, public transport, underground subway stations, and new apartments.
As an accredited testing center for microplastics and asbestos in Korea, we conduct research on asbestos particles around urban facilities and living environments.
We also operate a mobile odor detection system and noise measurement network to help ensure that people can live in a pleasant, clean environment.
We all live together in Seoul.
To ensure that people can spend their daily lives in a clean environment,
we operate an air quality measurement network and mobile measurement vehicles to measure air pollutants, and a mobile lab to identify the causes of fine dust.
We operate fine dust and ozone prediction & warning systems to provide air quality information to the public,
contributing to maintaining their health and preventing emergencies at the same time.
Health and environment must be managed carefully for our families and loved ones.
To make the happiness and safety of all Seoul residents continue tomorrow.
To bring you a better tomorrow than today.
‘Healthy Seoul’ and a better life for residents .
